Life Caravan
Lyn talked about illegal and legal drugs. I had thought about what types of legal drugs there are. There were times when Lyn asked us a question. I didn’t really put my hand up for anything. After all the questions and answers Lyn started talking about puberty, She said there was 7 steps on a ladder. I didn’t really get why she was talking about 7 steps on the ladder but I just agreed with what other people said.
That time we went to the Life Education caravan we didn’t get too see Harold. After a while we had a little bit of a stretch. It was 15 minutes until we had to leave the Life Education Caravan. In that period of 15 minutes Lyn had put on a movie called ‘From The Shadows’. The movie was based on a true story.

PMI
You need to come up with at least 2 different possible sign designs and complete a PMI for each. This should include some feedback from an adult or a peer around the school who would represent the stakeholders.
Sign 1 (insert image of screenshot or photo of your sign)
| Plus: | Minus: | Interesting: |
Sign 2 (insert image of screenshot or photo of your sign)
| Plus: | Minus: | Interesting: |
My final design is:
I chose this design because: Evaluation: * Does your sign meet all the specifications and requirements of the brief? If so, how? * What is the purpose of your sign? Do you think your sign will help eliminate a problem in the school or street? If so, how? * What did you do well? * What difficulties did you come across while making your sign? * What can you do next time to improve your project? |
Designing a sign.
Ideal location (in the right area) | Street | sign must be displayed in the street |
Brief Development: 1st Brief
Conceptual Statement:
(What is the concept or idea behind your design brief? e.g “To produce a sign with a message that helps eliminate the issue of...”)
“To produce a sign with a message that helps eliminate the issue of litter in the street.
Specifications:
(The measurable must haves ie. the things that are important to designing an effective sign e.g. sign must be easy to read etc...)
1.Big writing
2.Contrast colours
3.Creativity
4. It should be in the right place
5. clear message
6.
7.
8.
Constraints:
(Musts that are beyond my control e.g. Must be completed by the end of the term)
1. must be completed by week 7
2. must have a message to stop rubbish
3. must work with my partner - collaborate
4.
5.
Resources:
(things I need to make the sign)
Designing a sign.
Planning Log
Keep a record of both what you intend to do and what you did over the course of the next 3 weeks as we work through the Technology Process.
| Week 5 | Week 6 | Week 7 | |
| What I plan to do | brainstorming | survey | designing signs, planning log |
| Materials I will need | |||
| People/Sources I need to consult for more information. | |||
| What did you find difficult and why? | |||
| What I will do next as a result of any difficulties. |
STAKEHOLDERS
The Stakeholders are the people who have an effect on the production of your product
The Primary Stakeholder is your client ie. the person or community of people that your sign is going to be created for. eg. ….
| Wider Community Stakeholders: | Key Stakeholders: | Primary Stakeholder: |
Visitors | teachers students | me |
ATTRIBUTES: These describe the physical (what it is like) and functional (what it will do) characteristics of a product. These characteristics are key or essential for the successful function of a product and should be re- evaluated at each stage of the design process.
With your sign in mind, complete the following attributes table:
Attribute | Method of Measurement | Specification |
eg. Eye catching | sign will appeal (be noticed) by stakeholders | Sign must be clear, stand out and be creative |
Size | medium | sign must be large enough to stand out |
Colour | Bright colours | sign must have brown, white, black colours |
Create awareness (e.g. clear message) | no littering | message has to be clear |
Durable/ Weather resistant | Alamanate | sign must be laminated |
Designing a sign.
Your task is to design a sign that will clearly assist in eliminating a problem within our school. .
- Make sure you are clear what the task is.
- Can you identify the key words in this task (highlight them and discuss it with a buddy)
Thinking about signs and signage (Make a list of all the signs you have seen ….. and the purpose of the sign )
Type of sign: Purpose of the sign:
Keep your shoes tidy To assists people to leave their shoes tidy in the street
No chewing gum To show the little kids not to bring gum to school
Correct uniform Wear uniform with pride.
Chuck it in the bin Show the community that we are a clean school
No Rugby No rugby unless you have a referee.
Brainstorm some Ideas/ problems that we have around our school environment.
*Gum
*spitting
*tagging
*rubbish/litter
*bending the gates
*fowl language
*fighting
ISSUE CHOICE AND JUSTIFICATION
You need to think and expand on your answers, one sentence is not sufficient.
What is your issue in our school? littering in our street makes it look like a junkyard
Who does it affect? Our school, teachers, visitors and many more people
Why is it happening in our school? Littering is becoming a big problem around our school
When does it happen? It happens when we eat at morning tea and lunch.
Where is it happening? around our school class areas
What needs to happen to prevent this issue? Chuck our rubbish in the bin
My report.
I had just walked through the door ready to give my Mum my report. She opened the report with silence not knowing what she will expect. I had a feeling that it wasn’t going to be good. My Mum didn’t have a happy face. That’s when I knew it wasn’t good.
So now on I know what to improve on, my attitude and behaviour. Next time I hope my report will be much better.
